Effective leadership has taken on new meaning during the pandemic, marking the end of the top-down model in which the person in charge is expected to “take full control and hold all the answers”, writes leadership coach Gillian Davis in Sifted. Though nobody has a playbook at the ready for these uncertain times, Davis says the leaders that are thriving tend to follow these four rules:
- Build a sense of community by talking openly about your own emotions and challenges
- Involve more people in decisions to create shared ownership and boost employee engagement
- Acknowledge you don’t have all the answers and enlist the help of your board and partners
- Reaffirm your long-term goals as they will guide your short-term decisions
